EPT becomes first to achieve UN 31 HH2 Certification(April 4, 2007) - HOUSTON - Environmental Packaging Technologies (EPT) has become the first supplier of composite IBCs to meet the stringent United Nations performance requirements for international shipping containers for dangerous goods, including the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG). This prestigious U.N. certification of EPT's IBC requires passing specific performance tests for vibration, bottom lift, stacking, leakproofness, hydrostatic pressure and drop resistance. A well-known industry expert, Joe Wanner, states, "I'm not aware of another composite intermediate bulk container (IBC) in the world capable of passing the stringent U.N. criteria for transportation of hazardous liquids...this is a significant development that should have great appeal for anyone shipping PG II or III in rigid containers." The U.N. testing, completed by Packaging Technology Center in Houston, Texas, (www.pkgtest.com) submitted EPT's BIG Red IBC to extreme conditions. The IBC passed tests for bottom lift (1519 KG), stacking (2211 KG), hydrostatic pressure (140 kPa) and drop resistance (1.8 m).The BIG Red IBC is now certified to carry Group II and Group III Dangerous Goods. "The testing process that results in this certification is rigorous and can be difficult to pass, especially for a package of this design. We do a lot of U.N. certifications during the year and are very impressed with the construction and integrity of this new bulk package," says Thomas L. Schneider, president of Packaging Technology Center. "EPT is to be congratulated for their innovation in design, processing and application of state-of-the-art plastic materials in the construction of this new IBC which will change the landscape of international logistics," adds Dr. Lejo C. Braña, vice president of Technology. In passing the rigorous UN tests, EPT's IBC ensures that customers who lease or buy BIG Red containers can enjoy savings in time, money and headaches. Currently, EPT offers a wide array of shipping containers designed for safely, efficiently and environmentally friendly transporting liquids. EPT offers these containers for sale or lease, allowing custom solutions for all customers needs.
