August 2010: Big Red Flexitank Helps Firefighters In Russia

Environmental Packaging Technologies Ltd (EPT) donated thirty BIG Red Flexitanks™ through its Russian office (EKOPAKTEKH Ltd.) to the administration of the Balakhninsky District in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

“Our company strives to be active corporate citizens and we saw an opportunity to contribute to the rescue operations and firefighting efforts of this emergency,” stated Tatiana Golovina, a founder of EPT Ltd.

“The firefighting departments of the Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Response of Balakhninsky District are using our BIG Red Flexitanks to store water in different areas in order to quickly respond to fires as they spread or pop up. Each flexitank can hold up to 24,000 liters of water and firefighters can connect the fire hose directly to the bottom valve,” added Ms. Golovina.

BIG Red Flexitanks, manufactured by EPT in the USA, fit inside a standard 20-foot ISO container and are commonly used for the packaging and transportation of bulk non-hazardous chemical and food grade liquid products. The flexitank is typically secured in a 20’ container by means of a special bulkhead and is filled through a 3-inch bottom valve. It is then ready for shipment via truck, rail, or marine transportation. However, it can be placed on the ground and used as an interim storage unit for water, diesel, and even sewage and thus ideal for use in emergency and relief situations.

Other companies generously joined EPT in helping with the firefighting efforts: FESCO offered its 20-foot containers to hold the flexitanks, LOGOPROM furnished trailers, both Albacor Shipping and Strazh –NN provided logistics.

Tatiana Golovina extended thanks to the partners as well as to the Administration of Balakhninsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Region. With a special thanks to Andrey Teluhin, Head of the Administration of Balakhninsky District, and “Hydrotorf” Roman Popov, Head of the Administration of Rural Settlement for their prompt response and collaboration.

Happy Holidays from EPT
